MUSIC

Aswell as being Director of Photography, i am also composing most of the music used in our documentary extract as i take A2 Music. I have started composing with ideas of using a classical feel, but with a uptempo rhythm to link in the establishing time lapse. I have drawn inspiration from Just Jack's 'Embers' as it first has a classical feel then progresses into a modern feel with guitars and a canon.

Just Jack 'Embers'

Also i have been inspired by Dan Black's 'U + Me' which is the theme tune for BBC Switch's new online drama, The Cut.

The use of synthesizers and other electronic elements would link in with our target audience of young adults and parents. This would link in because the music would give a modern feel to the documentary.

REFILM // FILMING

As a group we have discovered that the footage that we have filmed for the time lapse, doesn't work when we put in the fastforward effect in iMovie. Also, our footage is static and so we would have to have different ranges of angles and shots too. So we would have to reshoot this friday at the same locations.

London Eye Panoramic Time Lapse

Big Ben Time Lapse, shows a different more interesting angle of Big Ben

This video shows London as a city during rush hour. The Video has plenty techniques, such as slowmotion aswell as fastforward.

Today on our filming schedule we are due to film, my scenes with my computer, this will be placed after the establishing shots of london eye etc.

TIME LAPSE!

Time-Lapse Photography is a cinematography technique whereby each film frame is captured at a rate much slower than it will be played back. When replayed at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing. Some classic subjects of timelapse photography include: cloudscapes and celestial motion, plants growing and flowers opening,
fruit rotting, evolution of a construction project, people in the city.
The technique has also been used to photograph crowds, traffic, and even television. The effect of photographing a subject that changes imperceptibly slowly, is to create a smooth impression of motion. A subject that is changing quickly already is transformed into an onslaught of activity. (from wikipedia)

As a group, we thought it would be a good idea to create a time lapse for the beginning of our documentary, using the london eye, big ben, london bridge + oxford st as our locations. we asked mr foley for guidance on how we would be able to do this and how much tape we would need. here are some youtube examples:

CHANNEL 4 ANCILLARY RESEARCH

As a group we have decided to put our documentary on Channel 4. Here are a few examples of the print adverts that they have used to promote their tv shows and documentaries.

TARGET AUDIENCE + CHARACTERS

ANCILLARY RESEARCH.

we researched what would be involved in a double page spread. here are some examples:

from NYLON's December issue (2009)
Personally, i like how the titles of each article is put out in bold and in the same font (helvetica) and its used throughout the whole magazine. Certain parts of the article are highlighted, to show importance/main points. And i like how the photos and the whole double page is structured. The white background helps the content on the page (photos, articles) stand out.

from the Metro (online e-edition)
Like the NYLON example, the font for the titles and the articles are all the same, and the columns are constructed evenly to avoid confusion to the reader. As a group we thought that the metro would be a good place to put our TV listing/double page spread because, as it is free and there is no contender because it is available in the morning rather than the evenings and everyone from teens to the elderly read the metro on the way to school or work. As this screencap shows, the metro is also available online aswell as the printed version. With the evolvement of the internet on iphone + blackberries commuters will also see our double page spread in a interactive format.

For the newspaper advertisement, a good idea was put forward in the meeting we had and that was to  to use the font (or similar) facebook uses for their logo.

with the use of the 'facebook font' or something similar it would instantly hit the reader and it would trigger the thought in their mind that this advertisement is for facebook, as the reader probably has a facebook account and therefore sees the logo and the font everyday.

The font 'Lucinda Grande' is used for the normal text:

And for the logo itself, as it is a company logo, Facebook aren't going to use a well known font such as times new roman or arial for their logo as many people can imitate that in a matter of seconds. i have found out that the font is (or similarly) looks like klavika:

klavika bold is the most accurate but i think it still would need to edited to make the letters kerned tighter to look like the facebook font itself.

MEDIA SESSION

today we all met up at the library to discuss what we are actually going to put in the 5 minutes we’ve been given.

we’ve also considered the ancillary tasks. we thought it would be a cool idea to use the same font for our advert that facebook use for their logo as it would click with the consumer that the font used is the facebook font and so the two would link together.
